Exhibition:
The Moonwalkers - Lightroom, Kings Cross
Bought as a Fathers Day present for my Dad (how cool am I?) we headed here around a month ago on a Friday evening. It's around a ten minute walk from Kings Cross station which is pretty easily accessible from most parts of London. The Moonwalkers is a hour long exhibition offering a unique perspective of humankinds past and future voyages to the moon. We haven't been back to the moon since 1972 but that doesn't mean to say that we are done exploring up there and NASA are sending a crew back there within the next couple of years. With loads and loads of archived footage, detailed information of what's actually been explored on the moon and lots more all excellently displayed on a massive surround sound screen this exhibition is well worth the £25 entrance fee and of course it's narrated by Woody from Toy Story.
Movie:
Trap - M. Night Shyamalan NO SPOILERS
Since M Nights revival with The Vist after some truly horrific movies I always get excited when he's releasing something new. After seeing the trailer for Trap a few months back it looked like another vintage MNS with twists and turns all over the place so you can imagine my excitement as I sat down in the cinema last night to watch it.
First off this movie isn't as bad as the reviews are saying. I've listening to a few podcasts this morning absolutely slaughtering it which I think is slightly unfair. Saying that it's a below average movie for sure, briefly saved by a quite unnerving performance from Josh Hartnett which I didn't think he had in him. The premise is superb, guy attends a concert with his daughter only to find its a, you guessed it TRAP to catch a serial killer, which turns out to be him! The trailer tells us all of this. What the trailer doesn't tell you is that only half the movie is set at the concert (the good half) and this is where the movie falls flat. While our protagonist is at the concert there's tension, excitement, what's going to happen next, how will he get out? Once he leaves that's ALL lost and we still have another 45 minutes left. Without going into spoilers I left the cinema kinda disappointed but not totally down on the whole thing as my friends and I discussed how the movie could of been better. One things for sure M.Night always comes out swinging. Some times he knocks us out and sometimes he misses...
Single:
Fontaines DC - In The Modern World
Literally released two hours ago (whilst writing this) Modern World is the FOURTH yes FOURTH pre-album release from Fontaines DC. I've got to be honest I don't like this fad of releasing so many singles before the album is actually out. I get that it's to drum up more interest, sell tickets and get them to number one but FDC don't need it they're that good. On first listen this is probably my least favourite of the pre- released stuff but lets be honest it's still fucking wicked. These guys are one of the biggest bands in the world right now and the anticipation of their fourth album Romance due out next Friday is huge especially from myself. Frontman Grian is a sophisticated poet with such a enigmatic stage presence he's almost a embodiment of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. Grian and the band are constantly evolving musically it's honestly so refreshing and such a joy to see.
