Liam Gallagher and John Squire - Just Another Rainbow

 I search the skyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! The man just loves to properly annunciate his words doesn't he?  

The Christmas present that none of us knew we needed came in late December when it was announced that Liam Gallagher and John Squire would be releasing music together in 2024. Just Another Rainbow was released today (Jan 5th) with the promise of a album later in the year and possibly some tour dates. I'm sure it's more likely that Squire will join LG for his Defiantly Maybe gigs later in the year. 

This collaboration excited me. Mainly because I'm bored to tears of Liam's solo stuff and let's face it The Stone Roses are dead (or until they're skint again) and this was something new, exciting and something that I didn't see coming. One of the greatest front men of a generation backed by arguably the most talented British guitarists since Marr? 

Lyrically this song is in the gutter. I'm assuming *Liam wrote it? I can't find anything to the contrary and it tells. As hard as he tries he just doesn't have the knack of writing songs like his brother, which is possibly why Beady Eye failed. Talk of not finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow is almost a pubescent way of writing about not finding what you really want after a long search. There's no depth to these lyrics (although there tries to be) and the bridge where LG "announces" the actual colours of a rainbow is just pure cringe. Musically the song's tight, with a slightly psychedelic sound and we get a almost two minute solo from Squire here which is fucking great.

My guess is that this is one of the more middle of the road songs from the album and that there's plenty more to come from the duo so I'm not being to hasty in overly criticising and I'd give this song a 6/10

My Top 10 Movies Of The Year 2023

 10) Empire Of Light (Sam Mendes) I believe this is the first movie Sam Mendes has both written and directed and it shows. Normally I don't think this movie would make it into my top ten of the year but for some reason this film left me with a nostalgic feeling that I still have to this day. Perhaps it's because it was the first movie of the year I saw in the cinema or because it's a ode to British cinema and seaside towns it just left something with me.  Olivia Coleman as usual is bloody fantastic as Hilary, duty manager at the Empire Cinema. She's a troubled woman with bipolar disorder, something that wasn't particularly recognised in the 80's (movie is set in 1980) who's having a affair with her married boss who's clearly manipulating the situation. Stephen a new employee at the cinema, a young black guy bonds with Hilary over their love of cinema and they begin a behind closed doors relationship. Arctic Monkeys Albums Ranked

First of all I'd like to say I'm a massive Arctic Monkeys fan. I remember downloading "Dance Floor" from Limewire (remember that?) as news spread about this cool new band from Sheffield playing music in a way we'd never heard before and it really did feel like that, one of those generationally bands that only come around once in a while. Damon Albarn recently said that AM are the last great rock band and I do think he has a point here as I'm struggling to think of any band since that has had such a profound effect on the industry?
