Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not turns seventeen!
Seventeen years ago I was in my final year of school when a friend asked me if I'd heard "that song about a dance floor". Bored at home later, probably while on MSN (remember that?) I downloaded the Arctic Monkeys first single "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" from Limewire (another remember that?) And for the next two minutes and fifty three seconds I was blown away by what I heard & even though they're a much changed band these days I'm still blown away by each and every release. Below I've ranked the songs from that massive debut album in ascending order:
13) Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But
12) Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured
11) Still Take You Home
10) Riot Van
9) Dancing Shoes
8) You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight At Me
7) From The Ritz To The Rubble
6) I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
5) When The Sun Goes Down
4) Fake Tales Of San Francisco
3) The View From The Afternoon
2) A Certain Romance
1) Mardy Bum
I'll be doing a full album review/ranking of all seven AM records in the very near future but tonight whack on WPSIATWIN and appreciate one of the best debut albums every released..
