Alphabet - Artifical Light

There's a lot wrong with social media. To say it's a toxic mess of idealism and deceit would be pretty much on the money but sometimes it's beautiful harmonic place where organic art can grow and flourish. That's a pretty heavy opening paragraph for a short single review but it leads me onto my discovery of the fantastic Alphabet and their debut single Artifical Light.  I stumbled across these guys over one of the platforms either Instagram or Twitter and was so so impressed after listening to this track. There's so much out there at the moment and I listen to lots and lots of music that at times everything can all blend into one but these guys stand out and they do by a mile. They've manage to create a dreamy, almost synthy bubble here kind of Foals like but then turn the track on its head with some heavy, punky, guitars that really add nuance and depth. The vocals etch away along the side of the rhythmic synth melody creating a haunting echoing presence. Artif...

Exhibition:   The Moonwalkers -  Lightroom, Kings Cross Bought as a Fathers Day present for my Dad (how cool am I?) we headed here around a month ago on a Friday evening. It's around a ten minute walk from Kings Cross station which is pretty easily accessible from most parts of London. The Moonwalkers is a hour long exhibition offering a unique perspective of humankinds past and future voyages to the moon. We haven't been back to the moon since 1972 but that doesn't mean to say that we are done exploring up there and NASA are sending a crew back there within the next couple of years. With loads and loads of archived footage, detailed information of what's actually been explored on the moon and lots more all excellently displayed on a massive surround sound screen this exhibition is well worth the £25 entrance fee and of course it's narrated by Woody from Toy Story. About the event Movie: Trap - M. Night Shyamalan NO SPOILERS Since M Nights revival with The Vist afte...

Coldplay Albums Ranked

With a new album on the horizon (possibly their last) and after just smashing a humongous set at Glastonbury headlining for the fifth time here are my Coldplay album rankings!    10) Ghost Stories - 2014 Paul Epworth, Dan Green, Rik Simpson I'd imagine it isn't a surprise that Ghost Stories is at the bottom of my list. Sandwiched in-between Mylo Xyloto and A Head Full Of Dreams it sits weirdly within the bands discography at a time they were creating records that are defiantly more upbeat and leaning towards pop. Rumoured to be a break up album, perhaps I'm being a little harsh here but maybe it should of been a solo project? There's electronica influences here especially with the track Midnight plus lead singles A Sky Full Of Stars and Magic are solid tunes that still get performed live but on the whole this album lacks enough good tracks for it to be any further up my list.    9)  Music For The Spheres - 2021 Max Martin, Oscar Holter and many, many ...

Fontaines DC - Starburster

Three days ago a ninety second video was posted on the bands socials (see link below) A homage to The Shining where green gunge oozes from a set of elevator doors as the slow, melodic opening verse of a song from the bands new album Romance seeps through the screen. Fontaines DC are back and on Wednesday night they debuted their first single from the forthcoming said album.  Starburster is bigger, more chaotic and louder then anything the band have ever done before. Elements where shown to us on Skinty Fia their excellent third album (and my record of the year 2022  My Top 10 Albums Of The Year 2022 (oldyellowbricks.co.uk)  ) where the title track dabbled in this kind of hip hop, transcendent sound that is all so prominent in this new single. It's not to far fetched to say there's elements of Moby, Massive Attack maybe even Fat Boy Slim here as the band possibly venture into new territory with producer James Ford at the helm rather than Dan Carey who has produc...

Good Cop, Bad Cop NEW MATERIAL!

Good Cop, Bad Cop is a solo side project from Joe Cornell Jnr of Milburn. The first album, which is self titled came out back in 2019 and I bloody loved it. Matt Helders of the Arctic Monkeys produced and I believe played on some tracks. It's hard to put a tag on the genre but I'd say there's a kind of electro-synth rock vibe to the record and and it's somewhat of a hidden gem. Five years later and we're on the verge of the "tricky second album" release.  Welcome to the Marble Zone is due out April 5th and we've already been treated to two tracks ahead of the records release. Running Away With The Circus my favourite of the two   which shows a shift in tempo to his previous stuff, with what sounds like electric drums and almost a RnB opening there's lots going on here which makes me very excited for the album and also the live shows. I've picked up a couple of tickets for the London gig. I believe the album has been produced by Goldteeth aka An...

Arctic Monkeys Albums Ranked

First of all I'd like to say I'm a massive Arctic Monkeys fan. I remember downloading "Dance Floor" from Limewire (remember that?) as news spread about this cool new band from Sheffield playing music in a way we'd never heard before and it really did feel like that, one of those generationally bands that only come around once in a while. Damon Albarn recently said that AM are the last great rock band and I do think he has a point here as I'm struggling to think of any band since that has had such a profound effect on the industry? Here I rank all seven of their albums and my reasoning. If you enjoy this read please take a look at my other posts and share this blog on your socials.  Twitter handle: @AdBartTheSecond     7) Suck It And See - 2011 James Ford Whatever record came bottom of my list I'm sure there will be some who disagree and I fully understand because really AM haven't made a bad   record have they? For me Suck It And See is the one I just ...

TV SHOW: FROM SEASON 2 (SKY SCI-FI) After being put onto this show by a friend who sold it to me as "the new Lost" I delved straight in and season one, although a bit predictable was fun TV.  The show is set in a town in middle America where those who enter are trapped and have to survive the nocturnal monsters that plague the town for some unknown reason. Think Lost and I Am Legend combined. Season two introduced some new but largely forgettable characters and some of the plots were elongated to the point beyond fillers. My favourite characters are Sherriff Boyd played excellently by Harrold Perrineau aka Michael from Lost (Waaaaaaaaaalt!)  Jade, the resident genius who has zero patience with the other minions and Victor, the weird guy who's the towns longest inhabitant. Season 2 was largely disappointing but of course they've left it on a massive cliff hanger so like the mindless drone I am I'll be excited and tuning in for w...
